Cash vs Insurance Based PT

Benefits To the Consumer For Using Cash Based PT:
1. Increased Focus on the Patient
Therapists in a cash based setting are likely not overworked, under-valued and burned out.
They do not have to spend time out of each day fulfilling insurance regulations, which takes
away from patient care. This means they can focus their attention on you and your goals to get
you better quicker.
2. Cost Effective Care
Physical Therapists are the musculoskeletal experts. By seeing physical therapists directly, you
do not waste time and cost of seeing other healthcare professionals first. Most insurance based
clinics will try to see you twice a week for 4-6 weeks. This might be more than you need. If you
have not met your deductible, this gets pricey fast.
Therapists at cash based clinics will talk with you to see what YOUR goals and expectations are
and work with that to get you better quicker. You and your therapist should determine how
many visits you need, not your insurance company.
3. Up Front Billing
At a cash based clinic you should be quoted a price before your session and you pay up front.
There are never any surprise bills down the road. If you have out of network physical therapy
benefits, your therapist will give you a superbill to turn into your insurance for reimbursement.
4. Accessibility
You can often get in to a cash based clinic sooner with no hoops to jump through because you
don’t have to check with your insurance company to see if the clinic is contracted with them.
5. Quality of Care
Cash based clinics do not use techs or aides and you will be seen by the same therapist, one on
one for every visit, which means you are getting a higher quality of care with each session. Your
therapist gets to know you and see your progress, helping you to get better sooner.
6. Privacy
The treatment you receive at a cash based clinic will not be turned in to insurance. Your doctor
does not even need to know, if you want it that way.
