What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of pain on the bottom of the foot.  Plantar fasciitis it the inflammation of the ligament that runs along the arch of the foot.  Many people are affected by plantar fasciitis.

What Causes Plantar Fasciitis?

There are several causes of plantar fasciitis.  Among them are; being overweight, being very active or being on your feet for several hours per day, having foot abnormalities like a high arch or flat foot or tight heel cord.  Poor footwear can also contribute to plantar fascia pain.

What are the symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis?

Sufferers experience burning pain in the heel or anywhere along the bottom of the foot.  Plantar fasciitis pain is usually the worst first thing in the morning and your most painful steps are the first few steps of the day.

What is the treatment for Plantar Fasciitis?

Effective treatment consists of icing the foot, stretching the surrounding tight structures, a proper foot evaluation, strengthening exercises, if indicated and splinting, taping or orthotics in severe cases.
