What to do About Your Back Pain
Cindy Molina, PT, MSPT, CMPT | March 22, 2019
Experts estimate that up to 80% of the population will experience back pain at some time in their lives and back pain affects people of all ages. Most back pain is not serious and can be relieved by simple strategies at home.
While no two people are alike, it is not a good idea to take advice about your back pain from a friend or neighbor. They could have a different problem causing their back pain and what is good for some back problems can be bad for a different problem.
Some examples of how to help ease your back pain include stretching, keeping your core strong and using ice or heat on your back. You need to know the proper way to stretch your back or hips and the safest way to strengthen your core so you don’t aggravate your pain.
Research also shows that people who seek help within 14 days of pain onset are more likely to have better outcomes with their back pain. Ignoring your pain will not make it go away and the longer the problem is left unsolved, the more likely your pain will turn into a chronic condition.
